Luxury Honeymoon – Bora Bora / Tahiti

Planning your first trip as a newly married couple? Bora Bora absolutely belongs on your short list.

Located in French Polynesia in the South Pacific, Bora Bora is the embodiment of one of nature’s most perfect and romantic honeymoon destinations. Featuring a turquoise lagoon protected by a coral reef and offering charming over-the-water bungalow accommodations, this destination has been described as the most beautiful island in the world.

Mountainous terrain and tropical scenery set against impossibly blue waters stun the senses, but that’s just the beginning of this honeymoon adventure. You’ll be able to hike Mount Pahia, go scuba-diving off of the Teavanui Pass, visit the Marotetini royal Marae and, of course, explore Bora Bora’s stunning lagoon.

Best time to go: We recommend November and April, both of which offer fine weather with temperatures in the mid-70s to mid-80s. Highest tourist traffic occurs from May to October, when rain showers are scarce, and fewer visitors come from December to March during the wet-weather season. But, with year-round warm weather, any time is a good time to visit Bora Bora.

There are many luxurious and romantic hotels and resorts to choose from in this “Pearl of the Pacific.” So, as you start planning your first big trip as a wedded couple, consider our preferred list of romantic honeymoon resorts in Bora Bora (see below) — and remember that Sydney Patterson Travel can plan every detail of your trip for you or just a simple hotel-booking reservation.

You planned your big day. Now it’s time to relax and let us plan your perfect honeymoon!

This is as close to walking on water as we mere mortals can get! Those who have experienced the magic of softly lapping turquoise water inches below their bungalow and the sherbet sky of an island sunset can attest to that. The Four Seasons’ newly refreshed overwater bungalow suites combine luxury, comfort and design for the ultimate island getaway — perhaps one reason that AFAR named Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora the Top Epic Stay in the World.

This resort also is known for its incredible private-plunge pools from those same luxurious overwater bungalows. Following a romantic evening spent over quiet waters, imagine enjoying a romantic breakfast delivered by canoe and served in your bungalow or villa! There are a host of activities available to honeymooners, including canoe excursions, kite surfing, sunset cruises, spa treatments in the resort’s private Kahaia spa suite, private photo shoots and more.

The St. Regis is another incredible Bora Bora resort. Offering everything from sunset couples' massages to romantic dinners, this 44-acre resort even boasts a 13,000-square-foot Clarins spa that’s on its own private island! Start your morning with a yoga class on site, or walk down to the Lagoonarium Discovery — where you can snorkel in the beautiful blue waters amid the coral and myriad varieties of tropical fish. Or perhaps rent a bicycle or indulge in a sailing excursion to further explore the island and its surroundings. (With features including gazebos, terraces, hot tubs and plunge pools, private gardens and guests-only beach access, you may decide not to leave the resort!) You can book a deluxe overwater villa, premier overwater villa, royal overwater villa, or The Royal Estate for your honeymoon. (A completely private compound ensconced by coral walls on three sides — with a fourth opening to a private beach facing a sparkling lagoon and a premium view of Mount Otemanu — The Royal Estate is the closest thing to experiencing Paradise by yourselves.) When you want to dine, choose from multiple on-site restaurants and bars using premium local ingredients prepared by world-class chefs.

Conrad Bora Bora Nui

Isolated on the island of Motu To’opua on a long stretch of soft white-sand beaches nestled between the majestic Mount Otemanu and the sparkling lagoon, the Conrad Bora Bora Nui is a beautiful way to begin your happily-ever-after. Luxurious over-the-water bungalows are large and offer nice views of the aquatic life below; however, also consider the garden villas if planning a honeymoon here. (The Conrad was ranked No. 1 in French Polynesia in 2020 by Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice, so you really can’t go wrong with either accommodation!) Although this resort is large, it never feels crowded — which translates to plenty of one-on-one time with each other. The guest rooms have king canopy beds and elegant marble bathrooms, along with private terraces and garden views of the tropical landscape. The suites offer lagoon views and private oceanside balconies along with the other amenities. Excellent dining options include European and Asian specialties at Iriatai French Restaurant and Banyan Chinese Restaurant, or authentic Mediterranean and Polynesian dishes at Tamure Beach Grill — and of course you can always unwind with cocktails at Upa Upa Lounge Bar, Iriatai Wine Bar or swim up to get a libation at Tarava Pool Bar.
